It’s the year of the Monkey! And it’s off to a playful start. Street food hawkers try to cash in on Chinese New Year festivities, the man tries to shut them down, the crowd goes ape!

Please put down the fishballs. You have 20 seconds to comply. You are in direct violation of Penal Code 1.13, section 9. You have 5 seconds to comply. 4…3…2…1…I am now authorized to use physical force!

I think I’m sophisticated, ‘cos I’m living my life like a good Homosapien. But all around me everybody’s multiplying ’til they’re walking round like flies man. So I’m no better than the animals sitting in their cages in the zoo man. ‘Cos compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees. I am an ape man

It’s gonna be a great year 🙂

What’s it all for? What’s the point of it all? And if it hasn’t got a point, what’s the point of that??

You maniacs! You blew it up! Ah damn you! God damn you all to hell!

I love how you only show footage of the police attacking the protesters but not the other way around.

  2. I’ll fix that for you in a minute…but hang on…you didn’t see the pictures of the dude sidekicking the cop? Or the dude attacking the cop with the rubbish bin?

  3. Michael says:

Cheers mate, hopefully people can see a more moderate view.

my prediction: within 12 months, police will fire real bullets into a crowd. the next day everyone will pretend everything is fine.

“the show must go on.” as the locals love saying.

I want to say something important here. I am born and raised in Hongkong, ever since I guess when I was 12 or 13, I had disliked this city that I am living in, at that time I dunno shit about anything like politics and inequality between the rich and the poor and whatnot, but after I got out of high school, going to community college and eventually getting to HKU where I major in some cultural studies and Englit, its not reli important why im studying this shit, I know its the only way for me to leave this city through tertiary education to immigrate to Scandinavia or Australia or wherever.

I have given up hope on my city on many fronts, looking at the laughable politicians here, the loose land border shared with Communist China which lets in huge influx of mainlanders on a daily basis, a terrible public healthcare system with horribly long waiting lists like 2 years to see a specialist like an orthopedist which is primarily the reason I am so wanting to leave because I have a serious illness with my cervical spine and lets just say on a side note, those nurses, public hospital ER doctors, private practitioners can be mean and cold as fuck.

Another thing, I actually met one nice private pain management specialist once, he has helped me prescribe the medications I need and write me doctor’s note when I need to travel abroad and the receptionists are surprisingly nice. And then one day when I went for a visit, BOOM, theres a notice on the door saying they have to close down their business because of the rent. I mean what a shocker seeing how the jacked up rents are not just killing small businesses but clinics too. I for one see that when Trump says he wants to close down the border with Mexico, it resonates with me, I know we are talking about utterly different contexts here but still, it really hits home with me. Hong Kong is just absolutely a lost soul.

I mean even for some expats here, like I have a relative from Paris who works in HK now, every morning when she commutes via the MTR, she sees grimness on people’s faces and she doesn’t understand why people look so sad all the time. It’s just so sad. And there’s nothing to do about that. My only wish is that Trump gets his presidency and follows thru with what he says about taking those jobs back from China, and keeps condemning China in his rants and stuff. I hope I can live to see it before I immigrate.

You missed the elephant in the living room: the screwed-up education sector. It’s significant that those that are able (tycoons and politicians) send their kids to study elsewhere. Even the tertiary sector cant escape the misery of student suicide.

I spoke to a principal recently and he said the reason kids have so much homework is that parents demand it. Go figure.

  13. Buck says:

You missed the elephant in the living room: the education sector. How screwed up is it? Parents, teachers, students…all are unhappy. A principal recently told that the reasons HK kids have so much homework is because the parents demand it. Cripes, what a sad bunch. It’s notable that the tycoons and politicians all send their kids to boarding schools overseas, where they can have a life.

Even Chinese U students have the hankering for suicide now. I say “even” because it’s pretty normal in HK for primary and secondary students to top themselves. Now it’s reached tertiary level.

  14. I have a small post on HK education from a few years ago…but I’m planning a bigger one for down the track.

  15. Anonymous says:

the government already has a TV commercial out telling single parent not to commit suicide. Why not create one for kindergarten primary school pupils too!!! UNICEF can chip in..

CY Leung telling people to go for a swim on the harbor on their office lunch hour would be also a very representative post of this retarded society.

  17. SH says:

Just wanted to say I got your “Hooligans push over bin in Shaftesbury” reference. I love you man.

  18. Demm says:

Seriously there’s nothing “international” about Cantonese. And “Asia’s World City” is nothing more than a laughable joke. Fuck both can’t wait the day China goes down so both can disappear at once

  19. Pandokie says:

You hit the nail on the head. Cantonese people always have a frown on their face with no etiquette at all. Don’t even think about men holding doors for women or people covering their coughs and sneezes. Everyone feels like they’re entitled to auto-victimization and can voice their unhappy opinions at any moment, whether it be towards a woman walking “too slow,” or just accidental pushing during the morning commute. Don’t even expect a smile from a stranger. I remember entering the dirty market with my grandmother and holding the door for several old ladies and they were all so thankful because no one ever does that!
The education system is also . When I last visited, my little cousin asked me to help her study for her English exam. To my horror, when I saw the “English words,” they were “bok choy,” “che jie mien,” “Mong Kok,” and just Chinglish words. Also, all those nannies and maids are not helping the younger generation. All of the kids are rude and unthankful.
